When it comes to makeup, foundation is the ideal cosmetic product for evening out skin tone and properly covering imperfections or blemishes on the face. Foundation gives the final makeup look a more natural appearance and enhances its effects. It also moisturizes the skin, preventing it from drying out due to other cosmetic products, and some foundations even contain sun protection factor (SPF).

It should be noted that makeup is used to enhance a person's face; therefore, if we do not apply makeup correctly, it can create the opposite effect on our physical appearance.

Types of compact makeup bases

Compact foundations are ideal for oily skin, as they provide a velvety and natural finish. They perfectly camouflage dark spots on the face. They usually include a sponge for easy application and are available in various textures.

• Compact powder foundation : ideal for oily or shiny skin. It helps makeup stay put longer and eliminates shine. It has a slightly dense texture and provides a completely matte finish.
• Cream compact foundation : This type of foundation also works as a concealer, correcting any blemishes or spots. It is recommended for dry or combination skin.

How to properly apply a compact foundation

To apply foundation correctly and ensure it adheres properly to our face, we should exfoliate our skin regularly. Additionally, it's essential to keep our face well-hydrated to prevent dryness and ensure products are applied evenly.

To apply the product correctly, there are several tools that will make this task easier. Below, we list the most commonly used ones:

• Sponges : These are perfect for better coverage of the face, but achieving a flawless finish is more difficult. If you dampen the sponge slightly before use, application will be smoother and easier.
• Factory applicators : these are usually included in compact powder foundations and are designed to facilitate the application of the product in question.
• Foundation brushes : These are brushes and applicators specifically designed for applying makeup and makeup-related products. They come in various shapes and sizes, depending on the desired look. They are ideal for achieving the perfect finish with minimal effort.
• Fingers : due to body heat, applying the product with your hands makes it much more fluid, providing a more natural and lighter result to our face

• The application of any foundation, whatever the application tool (sponge, brush, hands…) and its texture (liquid, compact, mousse…) should be done from the center of the face outwards, so we will achieve a perfectly homogeneous tone without breaks.
• It is very important to avoid applying the product to areas such as the eyelids, as this will prevent the addition of extra oil and facilitate the application of eye shadows, eyeliners and/or mascaras.
• Finally, we recommend applying a thin layer of powder to mattify the finish and set it for longer.
