Deodorant. A great ally for daily hygiene

Although we all know that showering is the most efficient way to wash our bodies, many people use deodorants to control body odor. One of the biggest concerns is that sweat will be noticeable, leaving stains on clothes or even causing an unpleasant smell.

They prevent perspiration from reaching the skin's surface and reduce the number of odor-causing bacteria thanks to their antimicrobial agents. They generally work through aluminum or zirconium bases that dissolve upon contact with sweat and moisture, prolonging their effect for up to 24 hours.

In contrast, deodorants differ from antiperspirants in that they only contain antimicrobial agents to control odor. That is, they don't control perspiration levels by clogging underarm pores. They may contain alcohol, and their effect lasts about as long as the scent of perfume .

Both products typically contain perfume to help mask body odor. Because they contain alcohol or aluminum salts, many people are intolerant to some of the ingredients in deodorants and antiperspirants. It's important to do a patch test first to check for allergies to any of the ingredients in these products.

Types of deodorants

• Spray deodorant : This is the most widely used type due to its convenience and quick absorption. These products can also act as perfume and can be applied to other areas of the body. It should be applied from a suitable distance to avoid irritating the skin, and if you have sensitive skin, it's best to use an alcohol-free deodorant.
• Roll-on deodorants : This format is easy to apply and provides a refreshing sensation upon application. It's applied by rolling a small, round ball across the skin. For individual use, it's primarily associated with skincare and leaves a feeling of moisture. It's advisable to look for a quick-drying roll-on deodorant to prevent staining of clothing.
• Stick deodorant : This is a compact deodorant that is applied directly to the skin. This type of deodorant is usually drier and often contains soothing ingredients to counteract irritation. Due to its texture, it can leave stains on clothing.
• Gel or cream deodorant : This is the least used format, as its application is more laborious than other formats. It is applied like a body lotion and is an ideal option for sensitive or dry skin, as it leaves the skin more moisturized after application.

Recommendations for the use of deodorants
